A Chinese part-time university lecturer accused of murdering a female Chinese international student in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, has refused to undergo a psychopath evaluation, police confirmed.
The Gyeongsan Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province attempted to conduct a psychopathy diagnosis on the suspect, surnamed Jeong, who was arrested yesterday on charges including murder and obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means, but Jeong refused.
Jeong initially agreed to the assessment but suddenly changed his stance.
Police stated that because the psychopath checklist relies on interviews with the subject, it is difficult to proceed forcibly if the individual refuses.
Jeong is accused of murdering a Chinese female international student in her 20s, identified as A, who entered South Korea to receive a graduate school completion certificate, at his residence in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, in the early hours of August 20. He is also suspected of mutilating her body and abandoning the remains in various locations across the country.
During police questioning, Jeong partially confessed to the crime, stating, "I murdered victim A in the early hours of August 20."
He also stated that after the murder, he severely mutilated the victim's body multiple times and abandoned the remains not only in the Gyeongsan area but also in Gyeonggi Province and other regions.
He is further suspected of filing a false report to the police to disrupt the investigation, dressing in women's clothing, taking a taxi to Dongdaegu Station, and turning off the victim's mobile phone.
Regarding his motive, Jeong reportedly stated that he accidentally killed victim A during an argument while they were in a romantic relationship.
However, acquaintances have testified that Jeong was relentlessly stalking victim A, who reportedly had a boyfriend in China.
Consequently, police believe the suspect may be making statements favorable to himself while the victim is already deceased. To verify the actual nature of their relationship, authorities are conducting supplementary investigations, including forensic analysis of mobile phones.
Considering the brutality of the crime, police are also coordinating a schedule to hold a committee to deliberate on disclosing Jeong's personal information.
