On the 24th, 104 days after her disappearance, Jang Mi-ran was found dead under a palm tree in a village located just a five-minute walk from the accommodation where she usually stayed. At the time of the discovery, the unnatural posture of the body and suspicious circumstances led the bereaved family to raise the possibility that someone had moved the body.
Previously, right after her boyfriend reported her missing in May, the assigned investigator, Police Officer Bu, claimed he had spoken directly with Mi-ran and confirmed her safety before closing the case. However, it was revealed that no call records even existed. The family had to wait for over two months believing the police's falsehoods.
As the investigation revealed, this was not the only case that Officer Bu had falsely closed. It was confirmed that Officer Bu had also directly handled and falsely closed the missing persons case of a man in his 60s who was later found as a skeleton following a re-reporting, adding to the shock.
