'Unanswered Questions' Revives 6-Year-Old Case of 44-Month-Old Child's Death

SBS "Unanswered Questions" is tracking the hidden truth behind the sudden death of a 44-month-old child.

Aired on the 29th, "Unanswered Questions" will delve into the reality of a mysterious case titled "The Confessions of the Haunted Sisters and the Eldest Daughter - The Secret of the 44-Month-Old Stepdaughter's Death."

In June 2019, Sua (a pseudonym), a 3-year-old at 44 months of age, was transferred to a hospital emergency room in Seoul and ultimately passed away. While her cause of death was presumed to be head trauma, dozens of bruises and wounds appearing to be caused by external force were found all over her body, raising suspicions of abuse.

However, following an investigation at the time, police closed the internal investigation on the grounds that there was no conclusive evidence of assault by another person and that there were circumstances pointing to self-harm. Family members claimed that Sua had been diagnosed with an intellectual disability, showed aggressive tendencies, and repeatedly engaged in self-harm such as banging her head against objects.

Reports indicate that Sua had been diagnosed with a grade 3 intellectual disability and was living at her great-aunt's house because she displayed aggressive tendencies toward her father and older sister as if she were possessed by a ghost. While her stepmother, surnamed Park (pseudonym), visited to care for her, the family explained that Sua had repeatedly self-harmed.

The case entered a new phase six years after Sua's passing, when her older sister Subin (pseudonym), who was 5 years old at the time, shared a shocking story. Subin remembered that her stepmother had whispered to her and her younger sister, instructing them to engage in unusual behavior. Meanwhile, the stepmother's side has strongly denied the abuse allegations, calling them lies told by Subin.

"Unanswered Questions," which will track whether this confession that has surfaced after six years is a distorted memory or a hidden secret, will air on Saturday the 29th at 11:10 PM.
