YouTube golf content channel Good Good Golf is facing severe backlash, with major sponsors consecutively terminating contracts following an advertisement depicting violence against a woman.
The Associated Press reported on the 28th (Korean time) that Good Good Golf, one of popular YouTube golf channels, had its contract terminated by golf equipment maker Callaway and was stripped of its title sponsor status for a PGA Tour event amid heavy criticism over the inappropriate advertisement.
In a recent promotional video for Callaway, Good Good Golf showed a man violently shoving a woman to the floor as she attempted to touch a golf club.
Good Good Golf explained that it was a parody of the movie Obsession, which depicts an obsession with a specific person, but fierce criticism erupted over the scene showing physical violence against a woman.
Good Good Golf deleted the promotional video on the 20th, but the criticism did not subside.
Callaway posted on social media, "We are ending our three-year partnership with Good Good Golf. We apologize to everyone who was hurt by this video." It also pledged to donate 1 million dollars to an organization preventing violence against women.
The PGA Tour stripped Good Good Golf of its title sponsor status for the tournament opening on November 12 in Austin, Texas, USA.
The PGA Tour stated that regardless of the title sponsor, the tournament will be held as scheduled under the name Austin Championship.
Launched as a YouTube channel in 2020, Good Good Golf gained massive popularity with content targeting younger audiences and even hosted event matches for PGA Tour tournaments.
