At 12:53 a.m. today (August 28), the Coast Guard received a report that a fall accident had occurred on the Incheon Grand Bridge in Unnam-dong, Yeongjong-gu, Incheon.
It was confirmed that an employee at the Incheon Grand Bridge control center witnessed the fall while monitoring the scene and reported it to the Coast Guard and fire authorities.
The Coast Guard believes that a woman in her 50s, identified as A, fell from the Incheon Grand Bridge in the direction of Incheon International Airport. They are currently searching the nearby waters, but have yet to locate her.
"We are conducting search operations by mobilizing two Coast Guard patrol vessels and two Navy vessels," a Coast Guard official said. "As soon as we find A, we plan to investigate the specific circumstances of the fall."
Since the Incheon Grand Bridge opened in 2009, a total of 104 people (as of August 14) have fallen into the sea, of whom 78 died and 15 went missing.
Eleven people are counted as having survived.
