Russia issued a strong warning on August 27 (local time) against the United Kingdom for supporting Ukraine in locally producing the long-range Storm Shadow missile.
According to RIA Novosti, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated during a briefing, "If Ukraine attacks Russian territory with British-made weapons, any British military facilities in Ukraine and beyond could become targets for retaliatory strikes."
She continued, "Those who commit war crimes, including attacks targeting civilians in our country, will be punished according to their actions."
Zakharova said that the UK must recognize the dangerous consequences of following such a policy, warning that if it does not abandon its hostile approach, the conflict could escalate to a fundamentally different dimension.
Zakharova also claimed that Russia is monitoring the UK's provision of materials necessary for Storm Shadow missile production to Ukraine, asserting, "It is clear that by transferring the so-called assembly capabilities to Ukraine, the UK and France are desperately trying to evade responsibility for striking deep into our country."
On August 24, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham visited Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, to mark its 35th Independence Day and announced that British, French, and Italian defense manufacturer MBDA agreed to disclose classified information regarding British-made components for the long-range Storm Shadow missile to help establish local assembly lines in Ukraine.
In addition, British daily The Times reported on August 15 that Ukraine has been carrying out "deep strike" operations targeting mainland Russia over the past six months using British-made long-range drones, showing that the UK continues to steadily provide military support to Ukraine.
