The White House stated on the 27th (local time) that "there are currently no ongoing talks with Iran, and this will continue until the President feels they have come to the negotiating table in a meaningful way."
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the remarks during an interview with Fox News that day, saying, "Right now, we are focused on the 'maximum economic pressure operation' announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent this week."
Leavitt added, "This is up to the discretion of the Commander-in-Chief, President (Donald Trump), and of course, the President has all options on the table."
She also stated that the Navy's blockade measures (against Iran) remain in effect and are yielding tremendous results, noting that "the United States essentially controls the Strait of Hormuz, and thanks to President Trump and the U.S. military, it remains open."
Leavitt shared that President Trump is scheduled to visit Houston, Texas, that day to host a Republican National Committee (RNC) fundraising event in support of Senate candidate Ken Paxton for the midterm elections.
Leavitt added that on the 28th, President Trump will visit NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston to award medals to the astronauts of the crewed space exploration mission Artemis II, who recently returned to Earth after completing a lunar mission.
Regarding artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, which have emerged as a variable in the midterm elections, Leavitt noted that President Trump signed a "ratepayer protection pledge" with corporations to ensure that residents do not bear the electricity costs generated by data centers, stating, "The President and the Republican Party want to leave decision-making power in the hands of local communities.
If the residents want it, the President believes that is a good thing."
Having served as the youngest-ever "President's mouth" as White House Press Secretary in the second Trump administration, Leavitt is leaving the White House as of today.
She said, "I feel great, but it is somewhat bittersweet," adding, "Working for President Trump has been the honor and blessing of a lifetime."
