A former police officer has been arrested on charges of murdering his wife while undergoing divorce proceedings.
The Seogwipo Police Station announced today (August 27) that they have arrested a man in his 50s, identified as a former police officer A, on charges including the murder of his wife in her 50s, with whom he was going through a divorce.
A is suspected of killing his wife with a weapon around 3:00 a.m. on August 23 at her residence in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo.
According to police investigations, A had been standing trial for domestic violence after allegedly assaulting and confining the victim in August of last year.
Police believe that A committed the murder to retaliate against the victim, anticipating punishment as the final sentencing for his domestic violence case was approaching in September.
After a missing person report was filed for A in Seoul on August 23, police suspected he would seek out his wife undergoing divorce proceedings and searched her residence in Jeju on August 24, where they discovered the murdered wife.
