The suspect who murdered a Chinese female exchange student turned out to have a completely different relationship with the victim, contradicting police reports that he claimed to be her boyfriend.
In an interview with a media outlet, a student who frequently interacted with the victim said, "The victim has a boyfriend back in China," adding, "Her boyfriend also studied in Korea before graduating first and returning to China."
The student continued, "The suspect, Mr. A, was the victim's academic advisor and I understand he had been stalking her."
Another Chinese exchange student said, "I heard from a friend who took Mr. A's class," adding, "Mr. A even sent text messages to the students he taught after committing the crime."
Mr. A, who worked at an orthopedic clinic in Gyeongsangbuk-do, also worked as an external lecturer at a university. It was found that he taught two undergraduate major courses, "Rehabilitation Therapy" and "Neuroanatomy," during the first semester.
Hwang In-jun, the senior judge in charge of warrants at the Daegu District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A—who faces charges including murder—during a pre-trial suspect interrogation held today, citing a risk of flight.
Mr. A is suspected of murdering a fellow compatriot in her 20s in the early hours of August 20, mutilating her body, and abandoning the remains in areas including Gyeongsan and Daegu.
After the crime, he put on the victim's clothes, covered his face, left the residence, and headed toward Dongdaegu Station.
Mr. A is also suspected of attempting to disrupt the police investigation by filing a missing person report the next day, telling police that "his girlfriend has not returned."
Police are reviewing whether to administer a psychopath checklist test on Mr. A and whether to disclose his personal information.
