YouTuber Park Wi, who sparked controversy after releasing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage regarding a fall he claimed to have suffered while getting off a KTX train, has decided to step down as a Seoul Metropolitan Government goodwill ambassador.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government today, Park recently expressed his intention to resign from the position.
The city plans to respect Park's decision and proceed with the follow-up procedures.
Park had been active as a Seoul goodwill ambassador since he was appointed on June 17 of last year.
His two-year term was set to run until June of next year.
On the 21st, Park posted a video through his YouTube channel, Weracle, showing an accident where his wheelchair wheel got caught on the foot of a social service agent, causing him to fall while getting off a KTX train.
This sparked controversy over whether his intention was to publicize the social service agent's mistake and subject him to criticism. Park subsequently deleted the video and apologized, saying, "I failed to consider the perspective of the staff member who did his best to help me and politely apologized."
However, the controversy showed little sign of subsiding.
It was reported that civil complaints requesting Park's dismissal as a goodwill ambassador had been filed with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Amid these circumstances, Park appears to have chosen to step down from his role as goodwill ambassador and take time for self-reflection.
