"Queen of country music" Dolly Parton has passed away, creating a nationwide atmosphere of mourning across the United States.
Parton passed away at the age of 80 on the 25th, local time, following a battle with illness.
Having written and composed over 3,000 songs throughout her lifetime, Parton won 11 Grammy Awards, produced 25 Billboard country chart-topping songs, and sold over 100 million records.
She gained immense fame not only through her music but also through various philanthropic activities.
She ran literacy programs for preschool children across the United States as well as in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and distributed more than 300 million books for free to children around the world.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she also donated 1 million dollars to be used for vaccine research.
The name of the world's first cloned sheep, "Dolly," was also derived from Parton.
Flowers left by mourners filled the space in front of Parton's home, and celebrities released memorial messages.
