The trial of musical actor Nam Kyung-joo, who is accused of sexually assaulting a disciple, is scheduled to take place as a public participation trial this coming November.
This comes as the court accepted a request from Nam's side, which argued that a key issue in the case is whether a supervisory relationship existed between Nam and the victim, and expressed a desire for a jury's judgment.
The court explained that while a public participation trial has aspects where it may not perfectly protect the victim, it also represents a critical decision for the defendant's life, leading to the acceptance of the request.
Nam was indicted in December of last year on charges of sexually assaulting his disciple by taking advantage of his social status and other factors.
Nam's legal team plans to focus its defense on whether Nam was in a position and relationship that allowed him to exert influence over the victim.
