At least 7 people were killed in a major fire at a chemical plant construction site in the Russian Far East.
According to the operator of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC), located in the Amur Oblast bordering China, the fire broke out at the construction site the previous day, local time on the 26th.
The fire resulted in the deaths of 6 Chinese nationals and 1 Russian national, while 152 others were injured.
In addition, 9 Chinese subcontractors working at the construction site are reported missing, and search and rescue operations are currently underway.
The company explained that the fire started in an auxiliary processing area for the pyrolysis unit, but added that other major facilities were not damaged.
The company also noted that hazardous substance concentrations in the air did not exceed standard limits following the fire.
The AGCC is a joint venture between Russia's largest petrochemical company, Sibur, and China's state-owned refiner, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec).
