▲ The suspect in the murder of a Chinese student in her 20s is being escorted to the Gyeongsan Police Station in Gyeongsangbuk-do around 11:50 p.m. on the 25th.
Police investigating the murder of a female Chinese college student in Gyeongsan have found circumstances indicating that parts of the victim's body were dismembered, and are conducting searches at local incineration plants and other areas.
Today (the 26th), the Gyeongsan Police Station in Gyeongsangbuk-do stated that they have confirmed circumstances where the suspect, a man in his 30s surnamed Jeong, dismembered and disposed of parts of the body of the victim, a 25-year-old Chinese student surnamed A, and are searching for the body parts at suspected disposal sites such as a nearby garbage incineration plant.
Police used closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to confirm that Jeong entered his residence with the victim at around 2:00 a.m. on the 20th.
It was reported that no footage showed Jeong forcefully dragging victim A when the two entered the residence.
It was determined that the victim had her last contact with her family via social media around this time.
At 10:30 p.m. on the same day, Jeong was found to have left his residence alone, wearing women's clothing and concealing his face with a hat and other items.
Police stated that the clothes worn by Jeong at the time are presumed to be the victim's, but they were not the clothes the victim was wearing when she entered Jeong's residence.
Police plan to investigate the origin of the clothes worn by Jeong through forensics and other methods.
Afterwards, he traveled to Dongdaegu Station, where he turned off the victim's mobile phone near the station.
Police also confirmed that Jeong, after moving to Dongdaegu Station, changed into men's clothing in a nearby restroom and returned to his residence.
Subsequently, Jeong reported the victim missing to the police at 7:05 p.m. on the 21st.
Police believe Jeong acted this way to disrupt the investigation.
A police official said, "Considering that he deceived the police in the early stages of the case, we plan to apply charges of obstruction of official duties."
Police initiated face-to-face questioning of Jeong starting at 9:00 a.m. today (the 26th).
Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for Jeong no later than 7:30 a.m. on the 27th.
The pre-arrest interrogation of the suspect (warrant review) for Jeong is projected to take place as early as around the 28th.
