The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced today (August 26) that it tested eight shipments of Chinese Napa cabbage imported over the two days following August 24, following reports that formaldehyde, a Group 1 carcinogen, was used in cultivating Napa cabbage in China, and found no formaldehyde detected.
The ministry stated that it has been testing imported Chinese Napa cabbage for formaldehyde content at the customs clearance stage for every shipment since August 24, and is also conducting inspections by manufacturing facility for kimchi and salted Napa cabbage.
The MFDS added that it is collecting and testing products from all Chinese manufacturers regarding Chinese Napa cabbage, kimchi, and salted Napa cabbage distributed in South Korea, and will make the results public in the future.
