Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok has reportedly requested President Lee Jae-myung to reconsider the approval for former People Power Party Representative In Yo-han to take office as the president of the Korean Red Cross.
Senior Democratic Party Spokesperson Park Sung-joon shared this information with reporters after an on-site Supreme Council meeting held in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, today.
Spokesperson Park stated, "Following the dinner meeting between President Lee and the Democratic Party leadership at the Blue House yesterday, Representative Kim asked in a separate meeting that it would be better not to appoint In as Red Cross president."
He explained, "Amid various discussions regarding In's appointment, we conveyed this position after gathering opinions both inside and outside the party."
According to the "August 2026 Public Official Retirement Employment Screening Results" released by the National Assembly, the National Assembly Public Service Ethics Committee conducted a review yesterday and determined that former Representative In's employment at the Red Cross is "permissible."
With former Representative In passing the employment screening, he will be able to assume office as Red Cross president once approved by President Lee.
Previously, the Red Cross elected former Representative In as its president through a resolution by the Central Committee on June 22.
However, criticisms have been raised that he is an inappropriate candidate, citing points such as his absence from the parliamentary vote on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following the emergency martial law in December 2024.
