Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok reportedly asked President Lee Jae-myung to reconsider the approval for former People Power Party lawmaker In Yo-han to take office as the president of the Korean Red Cross, it was learned today (the 26th).
Park Sung-joon, the senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, met with reporters after a field Supreme Council meeting held in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, today and conveyed this information.
Spokesperson Park stated, "After the dinner between President Lee and the Democratic Party leadership at the Blue House yesterday, party leader Kim asked in a separate meeting that it would be better not to appoint Mr. In."
Park added, "Amid various discussions regarding Mr. In's appointment, we gathered opinions from both inside and outside the party and conveyed this view."
According to the "August 2026 Public Officials Retirement Employment Screening Results" released by the National Assembly the previous day, the National Assembly Public Service Ethics Committee conducted a review on the 24th and judged former lawmaker In's employment as the Red Cross president as "employable."
Following his passage of the employment screening, former lawmaker In can take office as the Red Cross president once he receives approval from President Lee.
Previously, the Red Cross elected former lawmaker In as its president through a resolution by its Central Committee on June 22.
However, criticisms have been raised that he is an inappropriate choice, citing points such as his failure to participate in the impeachment vote against former President Yoon Suk Yeol following the emergency martial law in December 2024.
