President Lee Jae-myung invited Democratic Party Leader Kim Min-seok, Floor Leader Han Byeong-do, and supreme council members to the Blue House for a dinner, emphasizing the establishment of a close relationship between the party, the government, and the presidential office.
During his opening remarks at the dinner held at the Blue House yesterday (the 25th), President Lee emphasized unity, saying, "Even twins born from the same womb are different. If we start looking for differences, we will walk the path of enemies, but if we find common ground, we will become affectionate brothers."
An attendee shared the atmosphere, stating, "President Lee joked with Supreme Council Member Han Min-su, saying, 'Your gesture and pose during the party convention speech were impressive. Show it to me again.' This brought laughter among the attendees, making the mood very cordial."
It was reported that the dinner attendees raised a toast, shouting, "We are one. Go Democratic Party!"
In a written briefing after the dinner, Democratic Party Senior Spokesperson Park Sung-joon stated that President Lee remarked, "The party, the government, and the presidential office are a shared destiny and one body. There can be no administration without the Democratic Party."
He added that Leader Kim responded by saying, "We will work as expected of the ruling party's leadership."
Senior Spokesperson Park Sung-joon also announced that the Democratic Party leadership pledged to firmly support the steady implementation of President Lee's state governance philosophy, while cooperating closely on livelihood and reform bills as well as the 2027 budget formulation.
Conveying the atmosphere of yesterday's dinner, he noted, "We communicated without formality and exchanged opinions broadly."
Attendees at yesterday's dinner included Leader Kim, Floor Leader Han, Supreme Council Members Choi Min-hee, Park Sun-won, Seo Mi-hwa, Lee Seong-yun, and Han Min-su, Secretary-General Han Jeong-ae, Policy Committee Chair Kwon Chil-seung, and Senior Spokesperson Park.
From the Blue House, Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Hong Ik-pyo, and Secretary for Political Affairs Jeong Eul-ho joined the gathering.
Previously, on the 19th, two days after the conclusion of the August 17 party convention, President Lee invited Kim Min-seok, Jeong Chung-rae, and Song Young-gil—who had run for party leader—to the Blue House for a dinner, where he emphasized the concept of the "party and government as one team."
President Lee is expected to reiterate this message the day after tomorrow (the 28th) by inviting all Democratic Party lawmakers to the Yeongbinwan guest house at the Blue House for a luncheon.
