The International Federation of Association Football and the Asian Football Confederation have sent an official letter to the Korea Football Association requesting an update on the activities of the Korean football reform committee.
The letter also mentioned the possibility of sanctions regarding external intervention.
FIFA and AFC have begun assessing the situation surrounding the activities of the Korean football reform committee, which was launched under government leadership last month following the North and Central American World Cup.
An official from the Korea Football Association stated, "In a joint official letter, FIFA and AFC requested detailed information on the matters discussed by the reform committee," adding, "The letter also included regulations stating that sanctions may be imposed if a third party improperly interferes with the independence of the association."
The reform committee is discussing measures to reform Korean football, including preparing a recommendation to significantly expand the presidential election panel from the current 200-plus members to 20,000.
The KFA official told SBS, "We are participating in the discussions while preserving the independence of the association as much as possible," and added, "We plan to objectively organize and submit the details."
