Following the case involving Jang Mi-ran, the investigation into the "Jang Yoon-gi case"—which had heightened public distrust and anxiety toward the police—is also ongoing. The police have re-summoned the former chief of the Gwangsan Police Station for questioning a month later. Conducting a high-intensity interrogation lasting over 10 hours, the police are carefully considering whether to apply for an arrest warrant.

Senior Superintendent Kim, booked by the National Police Agency's special investigation unit on charges including abuse of authority, was pointed out as the person suspected of exerting undue influence while directing the initial investigation into the Jang Yoon-gi case during his tenure as the chief of Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station in May.
Following the Namyangju stalking murder case, the police's handling of sex crimes has repeatedly come under fire.
The police perspective is that in order to avoid reprimand for the leadership, the connection to relationship-based crimes was intentionally severed, leading to a botched investigation such as failing to apply the charge of murder with the intent to commit rape.

According to SBS coverage, it was confirmed that the police summoned Superintendent Kim again yesterday (August 24), a month after his first summons for questioning.
During the interrogation, which lasted about 11 hours, the police reportedly intensively questioned him about the directives he gave at the time of the incident, based on physical evidence and statements secured since the first round of questioning.
It was learned that Superintendent Kim maintained his previous stance, stating, "I have never exercised undue influence."
The police are taking a cautious approach regarding how to handle Superintendent Kim's custody, including whether to request an arrest warrant.
This caution stems from the fact that while the investigation gained momentum after arresting the head of the Gwangsan Station investigation team on charges of evidence destruction, requests for arrest warrants filed twice against his direct supervisor, the head of the detective division, were successively dismissed.
Unlike the prosecution, which has booked former National Office of Investigation Director Park Sung-ju, the police have reportedly not found any clear connection between the Jang Yoon-gi case and the National Office of Investigation so far.
Following the investigation team leader who has already been referred to prosecutors, the police plan to finalize their review of the charges against the three suspects, including the former Gwangsan station chief and the detective division head, and wrap up the investigation as early as next month.
