A current-duty police officer booked on charges of falsely closing a missing person case under their charge is now facing a warrant review just a day after being released following the court's approval of a review on the legality of their arrest.
The Jeju District Court will hold a pre-arrest interrogation for suspected police officer A at around 2:30 p.m. today (the 25th) on charges of falsely closing a missing person case.
The decision on whether to issue an arrest warrant for Officer A is expected to be made today.
On the 23rd, the day after being emergency-arrested, Officer A filed for a review of the legality of the arrest with the court. Yesterday, following the review hearing, the court accepted the request and decided to grant it.
Officer A will attend the pre-arrest interrogation while remaining released.
Officer A is accused of lying to the reporter of a missing person case reported last May—involving 37-year-old Jang Mi-ran—by claiming that contact had been made, arbitrarily closing the case, and deleting Jang's data from the management list of the missing persons profiling system.
Officer A is also suspected of using a similar method to falsely close a missing person case involving a man in his 60s on July 2nd.
Following the discovery of the man's body at an undisclosed location in Jeju on the 22nd, police recovered a body presumed to be Jang in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, on the morning of yesterday.
