Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom caused a disturbance at a basketball game after wearing a T-shirt mocking transgender people to watch the match, leading to a verbal altercation with a player.
According to AP and Reuters on the 25th (local time), Kanter Freedom attended the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky on the 24th wearing a T-shirt that read, "Woman. Noun. Adult. Female."
This incident occurred amid fierce debate over whether WNBA should accept transgender women as players.
During a third-quarter timeout, Chicago guard Natasha Cloud approached Kanter Freedom to protest, leading to a near-physical confrontation.
Security guards stepped in to separate Cloud and Kanter Freedom, and Kanter Freedom was eventually escorted out of the arena.
Having played in the NBA for over a decade under the name Enes Kanter, he is a native of Turkey whose passport was revoked after criticizing the Turkish government.
After legally changing his name to include "Freedom" in 2021, he also attempted to enter the 2027 WNBA draft, claiming to be a transgender woman.
The WNBA told Reuters, "Kanter Freedom's actions were divisive and aimed at grabbing attention," adding, "He is not eligible for the draft."
