The intense heat wave is gaining strength once again.
Yesterday (August 24), heat wave advisories issued for most parts of the country, including Seoul, were upgraded to heat wave warnings.
Today, centered around the regions under these warnings, daytime perceived temperatures are expected to rise above 35°C (95°F), bringing sweltering conditions.
Meanwhile, amid the intense heat, showers are forecasted today mainly for the Seoul capital area and Gangwon Province.
In particular, heavy downpours reaching up to 60 mm are expected in Gyeonggi Province and northern Gangwon Province.
Overnight, Seoul experienced a tropical night once again for the first time in 9 days.
Temperatures stayed above 25°C (77°F) overnight in most areas including Seoul, and tropical nights are expected to continue.
Today's daytime highs are expected to reach 32°C (90°F) in Seoul and 35°C (95°F) in Busan, with high humidity making it feel even hotter.
Fortunately, the extreme heat wave will not last very long.
Rain is forecasted for the Seoul capital area and Gangwon Province on Wednesday, and as rain spreads nationwide starting from the southern regions over the weekend, temperatures are expected to gradually drop.
