The military and health authorities have launched an investigation after trainees who recently enlisted in the Air Force showed symptoms suspected of mass food poisoning.
According to the military on the 23rd, around 70 Air Force trainees (the 881st class) undergoing training at the Basic Military Training Corps under the Air Force Education and Training Command have shown symptoms suspected of food poisoning, such as stomach pain and diarrhea, since the 17th.
They received medication and intravenous (IV) fluid treatments at the base hospital, and it was reported that most of them have improved and returned to their units.
The Air Force stated that there are no severe patients.
Local health authorities are currently conducting an epidemiological investigation, and the possibility of poor food ingredient management by a privately outsourced catering company has also been raised.
The Air Force explained that immediately after the incident occurred, it conducted a special joint hygiene inspection targeting all dining facilities within the base and instructed all trainees to wear masks and strengthen personal hygiene management.
