A cargo ship has sunk in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of India, prompting the Indian Coast Guard and Navy to search for missing crew members.
According to local authorities, the Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Ocean WINNER sank on the 21st local time in the Bay of Bengal, about 444 km away from the port of Paradip in the eastern Indian state of Odisha.
The vessel reportedly departed from the port of Paradip to transport iron ore to China.
Indian authorities have confirmed that there were 20 Chinese nationals, 3 Myanmar nationals, and 1 Bangladeshi national on board.
The Indian Coast Guard and Navy launched a joint search operation and rescued 2 Chinese crew members who were in a life raft, but the remaining 22 people have not yet been found.
The Maritime Administration of India stated that the two rescued crew members said the ship listed to one side and sank in about 8 minutes, forcing them to abandon ship, while the exact cause of the sinking has not yet been confirmed.
