Democratic Party Representative Kim Min-seok and Chief Presidential Secretary Kang Hoon-sik spoke with one voice on the need to rapidly expand housing supply during today's (August 23) party-government consultation.
[Kim Min-seok / Representative, Democratic Party: We must mobilize all possible means and methods to secure sites on an omnidirectional basis and expand real estate supply.]
[Kang Hoon-sik / Chief Presidential Secretary: Signals are most important above all for housing supply. Public housing anxiety cannot be resolved through vague promises, but through concrete plans.]
Having discussed ways to expand supply through shortened licensing procedures and regulatory improvements, the party and government decided to pursue transferring the authority related to promoting redevelopment and reconstruction for housing units of 500 households or fewer to heads of basic local autonomous bodies, such as district heads, for swift supply.
[Park Sung-jun / Senior Spokesperson, Democratic Party: We have decided to actively discuss easing private redevelopment and reconstruction moving forward.]
Regarding the housing supply plan utilizing the Yongsan Park site, which has drawn intense focus, they acknowledged that discussions were held, but withheld final conclusions.
[Park Sung-jun / Senior Spokesperson, Democratic Party: Regarding Yongsan Park, I don't think it is yet the stage to make an announcement.]
This is because consultation procedures remain with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, which opposes the Yongsan Park housing supply plan, and a Cheong Wa Dae official also predicted that they must watch the additional meeting scheduled for this week between Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-duk and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hun.
The People Power Party criticized the party-government discussions on revising the tax reform plan, asking, "How can the public trust policies that can be overturned every time they are announced?" It also sharpened its criticism, claiming that granting redevelopment and reconstruction authority to district heads is an attempt to neutralize the authority of the Seoul Mayor.
