Playing as the sixth-batter and right fielder in an away game against the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball (MLB) held at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, today (the 23rd), Lee went 1-for-4.
Lee maintained his season batting average at .291.
Having struggled to solve Boston's left-handed starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval, Lee was retired on a foul tip strikeout in the second inning, a first baseman's groundout in the third inning, and a center fielder's lineout in the sixth inning.
Leading 2-0 with two outs and a runner on first in the eighth inning, he hit a clean single to right field to advance the runner to third and immediately stole second base for his ninth stolen base of the season, though subsequent hits did not follow.
Having taken the lead with two solo home runs, San Francisco escaped a bases-loaded, no-out crisis in the bottom of the eighth inning without conceding a run, but gave up consecutive RBI hits in the bottom of the ninth with one out and runners on first and third, allowing a 2-2 tie.
In the ensuing bases-loaded situation, the catcher failed to step on home plate after receiving a home throw from the first baseman who fielded a grounder, conceding the winning run in a 2-3 defeat.
