Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced regarding the magnitude 3.1 earthquake that occurred 21 kilometers west-northwest of Haenam-gun, South Jeolla Province, at 6:43 a.m. today (the 23rd) that "there has been no impact on nuclear power plants."

KHNP stated, "All nuclear power plants currently in operation are running normally," adding, "It has been confirmed that the seismic measurement values recorded at these plants are below the seismic warning threshold of 0.01g."

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) also announced that there were no abnormalities concerning the safety of all domestic reactor facilities following the earthquake.

The reactor facility closest to the epicenter is the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant, located approximately 83.2 km away, where the seismic measurement recorded for this earthquake was 0.0032g.

The NSSC explained that this level is much lower than the seismic design value of the Hanbit plant (0.2g) and had no impact on the facilities.

No abnormalities were found during an emergency safety inspection conducted at the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant site by the NSSC's Hanbit Regional Office.

Seismic measurement values at other nuclear facilities were also recorded at low levels overall.

The Gori Nuclear Power Plant recorded 0.0016g, the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant 0.0004g, the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant 0.0002g, the Hanul Nuclear Power Plant 0.0008g, and the Hanaro research reactor 0.0001g.
