A woman visited a jewelry store.
She claimed her husband was buying her 80 don of pure gold as a birthday present.
It turned out she was a voice phishing money collector, and she was caught by an incredible coincidence.
This happened at a jewelry store in Sejong City on July 29.
The woman, wearing a gray hat, asked for gold bars, saying her husband was buying her gold for her birthday.
She then left with 30 don of pure gold, claiming her husband had transferred the purchase money via account transfer.
The next day, the woman showed up again at a different jewelry store in the same Sejong area.
This time, she attempted to purchase 50 don of pure gold, once again claiming her husband was buying it for her.
As it happened, both jewelry stores were operated by the same owner.
Suspicious because the name and account number of the man who deposited the money the previous day were different, the owner reported her to the police.
According to the police investigation, the woman was indeed a voice phishing money collector.
It was revealed that she had collected and delivered approximately 120 million won worth of gold or cash this year.
