Mixed martial arts fighter and entertainer Choo Sung-hoon is temporarily halting his broadcast activities ahead of his final career match.
Choo Sung-hoon is scheduled to compete in the mixed martial arts event "Black Combat 17," taking place on November 21 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul. Having debuted in mixed martial arts in 2004, Choo Sung-hoon plans to conclude his 22-year athletic career with this match.
The production team for the YouTube channel "The Owner Has Gone Insane" (literal translation), on which Choo Sung-hoon appears, announced through a notice on the 19th that "Choo Sung-hoon is currently focusing on his training and preparing for his 'last fight.'"
The team added, "'The Owner Has Gone Insane' holds special significance as it features content filmed before he entered full-scale preparation. Viewers will be able to see Choo Sung-hoon, who decided to refrain from variety shows and broadcast activities until his 'last fight' match. Since we are joining entertainer Choo Sung-hoon as he prepares for his final appearance as a fighter, the production team sincerely cheers on his challenge more than anyone else," and expressed hope that he would "create wonderful moments with a great match."
Previously, on the 11th, Choo Sung-hoon shared news of his retirement match through his YouTube channel, stating, "I have decided to make the final challenge of my life." He showed his pride by saying, "I'm not doing this because of subscribers, nor is it because of my family. I'm doing it for myself. I want to look cool as a man. Even though people around me ask why I'm bothering to take on such a match, I am a martial arts fighter."
Turning 51 this year, Choo Sung-hoon remarked, "I need to cut weight and there is a lot to prepare," while asking fans to look forward to the match by adding, "I am most looking forward to seeing to what extent I can still move."
Meanwhile, Choo Sung-hoon, who started his career as a judo athlete, transitioned to mixed martial arts in 2004 and has competed in K-1, the UFC, and ONE Championship.
