JCS: North Korea Fires Unidentified Projectile Toward East Sea

North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea today, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced.

The JCS is currently analyzing the specifications and range of the North Korean projectile.

If the projectile is confirmed to be a ballistic missile, it will mark North Korea's first launch in eight days.

Previously, North Korea fired one ballistic missile toward the East Sea from the Wonsan area at around 6 a.m. on the 12th.

At that time, the North Korean missile flew more than 700 kilometers.

It also fired a short-range ballistic missile toward the East Sea from the Wonsan area on the afternoon of the 6th.

However, North Korea did not report either of the two launches through its state-run media, raising questions about the background.

This launch took place during the Ulchi Freedom Shield, a theater-level South Korea-U.S. joint exercise running from the 17th to the 21st.
