People Power Party Floor Leader Chung Jeom-sik criticized newly elected Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok today (the 20th), who remarked "Step down, Cho Hee-dae" regarding Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's written nomination of a Supreme Court justice, asking, "How is his behavior of hurling blackmail and threats at the Chief Justice any different from former leader Jung Chung-rae?"
During a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Floor Leader Chung criticized, "No matter how much of a pro-Lee Jae-myung party leader he is—of the president, by the president, and for the president—it is astounding and disappointing that the ruling party leader's very first message upon taking office is not about people's livelihoods, but 'Step down, Cho Hee-dae'."
He targeted the Democratic Party, saying, "The very claim that the Chief Justice's failure to dare report to the President face-to-face constitutes grounds for impeachment is a total denial of the separation of powers and democracy," and added, "A pro-chief executive party leader who prioritizes catering to the President's mood over people's livelihoods is bound to head down a path of inevitable failure."
Regarding Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho's recent resignation, Floor Leader Chung stated, "Minister Jung is trying to run away from the legal and political responsibilities that the President's trial erasure will cause, and the presidential office is somehow trying to pave an escape route for a jailbreak by borrowing the hands of the Justice Minister," calling it "a cowardly behavior where both caused the trouble together, but neither will take responsibility."
He continued, "Minister Jung already became an accomplice in erasing the President's trial by exerting outside pressure to drop the appeal in the Daejang-dong case last November," emphasizing that "even if he shifts and changes like a chameleon now, the crime of abuse of power will surely come back to haunt him."
He warned, "I do not know who the next Minister of Justice under the Lee Jae-myung administration will be, but I will offer a piece of advice in advance: Minister Jung, who was called the closest confidant of the President and the leader of the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction, also accumulated bad karma while cleaning up after the President's judicial risks.
Whoever comes as a successor, the Minister of Justice will be reduced to a 'designer of the President's jailbreak plan'."
