Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-deok stated on the 19th regarding the review of plans to supply housing in Yongsan Park, "We are by no means planning to bulldoze the entire green space of Yongsan Park to build housing."
During a plenary session of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee held that day, Minister Kim made the remarks, explaining, "What we are reviewing is whether there could be an alternative to limitably supply housing, especially youth housing, in areas that are partially losing their functions as parks and green spaces."
Regarding housing supply using greenbelts (development restriction zones), Minister Kim also explained, "We are not trying to touch green spaces that must be preserved to supply housing. Our idea is to supply housing for young people, focusing on some areas that have already lost their value as greenbelts due to damage."
He also noted, "There are some areas that have already completely lost their green space functions, such as officer quarters, military apartments, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration site."
When Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Nam-geun asked regarding consultations with Seoul city over the public youth housing supply, "Is it true that Seoul city has no disagreement on the need to supply housing, and that you are currently discussing whether it will be 6,000 households, 8,000 households, or 10,000 households?", Minister Kim replied, "That is correct."
