The movie HOPE has been officially invited to the Perlak section of the 74th San Sebastian International Film Festival.
HOPE has been officially invited to the Perlak section of the 74th San Sebastian International Film Festival, which will run from September 18 to 26. The San Sebastian International Film Festival is an A-list film festival recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations and boasts the longest history and highest prestige in the Spanish-speaking world.
In particular, the Perlak section—where HOPE has been invited—screens top feature films of the year that have not yet been released in Spain and have received critical acclaim at other international film festivals, having their global cinematic value proven. This reflects the soaring enthusiasm surrounding HOPE.
Having previously drawn explosive interest by confirming releases in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, HOPE has consecutively secured invitations following the competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, the 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), and the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, now adding the 74th San Sebastian International Film Festival to the list.
Adding to the buzz, James Gunn, co-chairman of DC Studios and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, has drawn attention by praising HOPE. After watching HOPE with the cast and crew of his upcoming project, director James Gunn shared, "I have been a fan of director Na Hong-jin's work ever since seeing The Chaser, The Yellow Sea, and The Wailing. As a huge fan of The Yellow Sea in particular, I was thrilled to watch director Na Hong-jin's new and wonderful film, HOPE." He also praised Jung Ho-yeon, who delivered an unforgettable entrance as police officer Sung-ae in Hopohang, saying, "She was fantastic."
HOPE tells the story that begins when Beom-seok, the head of the outpost in Hopohang located within the Demilitarized Zone, hears news from local youths that a tiger has appeared, leading the entire village into a state of emergency as they encounter an unbelievable reality. Released on July 15, it has drawn 4.49 million moviegoers nationwide to date.
