Fifteen people, including foreign tourists waiting to ride the Songdo Marine Cable Car in Busan, were stung by hornets, prompting an emergency response from the fire authorities.
According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, a 119 emergency call was received at around 12:00 PM today reporting a hornet stinging incident near the Songdo Marine Cable Car around Amnam Park in Seo-gu.
The incident left 15 people stung by the insects, comprising two toddlers, three children, and 10 adults. Among them, 12 were transported to the hospital.
The victims included 11 foreign nationals: five from Taiwan, five from China, and one from Thailand.
Authorities determined that most of the victims were tourists who had come to ride the cable car.
The fire authorities cordoned off the accident site and requested the management office to broadcast warning announcements designating the hazardous area.
An official from the fire department stated, "A large number of casualties occurred as hornets, provoked for unknown reasons, flew about."
Fire authorities located a hornet's nest measuring approximately 40 centimeters in diameter on a tree inside Amnam Park and incinerated it to remove the hazard.
