At around 7:05 a.m. today (Aug. 18), a man in his 60s, identified as A, was killed after being crushed by his own 1-ton truck as it rolled down a slope near a mountain in Iui-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
Mr. A was transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest by responding firefighters, but ultimately died.
According to police investigations, the accident occurred while Mr. A started the engine of his truck, which was parked in front of a farm hut to go out, and momentarily got out of the vehicle.
Police believe that Mr. A got out of the vehicle without engaging the parking brake, and when the truck began to roll down the slope, he attempted to block it, leading to the fatal accident.
A police official stated, "It is estimated that the truck, with its parking brake disengaged, slipped down about 10 meters and struck the owner," adding, "We are currently investigating the exact circumstances."
