▲ Heavy rainfall in Geoje causes road flooding.
Today, Tuesday (August 18), rain will continue mainly along the southern coast until the morning, while scattered showers are expected across various parts of the country starting in the afternoon.
The rain today will persist mostly in the southern regions until the morning.
However, rain is forecasted to continue in Jeju until the afternoon.
In particular, as heavy rain has weakened the ground, rain will continue along the southern coast of the Gyeongsang provinces through this morning, requiring caution against landslides, soil runoffs, and structural collapses.
Expected precipitation is 5 to 40 mm for the southern coast of Jeolla, 10 to 60 mm for Busan, the southern coast of Gyeongsang, and Jeju Island, 5 to 30 mm for Ulsan and inland Gyeongsang, and 5 to 20 mm for southeastern Gyeongbuk, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
Between the afternoon and evening, showers will fall in northern Gyeonggi, inland Gangwon, the southern Chungcheong regions, and parts of the southern provinces.
Regions experiencing showers may encounter sudden gusts of wind accompanied by thunder and lightning, making facility management and safety precautions necessary.
Expected precipitation from these showers is 5 to 20 mm for northern Gyeonggi and inland Gangwon; 5 to 30 mm for Daejeon, southern inland Chungnam, and southern Chungbuk; 5 to 60 mm for Gwangju, Jeonnam, Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Daegu, and southern Gyeongbuk; and 5 to 40 mm for southeastern Jeonbuk.
Intense heat will make a comeback.
With heatwave advisories issued for parts of the western coast of Jeolla, the greater Seoul area, the Chungcheong regions, and the southern provinces will experience maximum perceived temperatures hovering around 33°C (91°F) for the time being, calling for efforts to prevent heat-related illnesses.
While temperatures may drop temporarily in areas receiving rain or showers, high humidity will drive temperatures back up after the precipitation stops, raising the possibility that heatwave advisories will be expanded.
Tropical nights, where temperatures do not drop below 25°C (77°F) even at night, will persist, centered around some urban and coastal areas.
Daytime highs are forecasted to range from 29°C to 33°C (84°F to 91°F).
