A daycare teacher charged with child abuse, including force-feeding a child who was dry-heaving, has been fined.
Ulsan District Court Judge Shin Hye-won, presiding over Criminal Chamber 2, announced on the 16th that she sentenced A, a daycare teacher who stood trial on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes, to a fine of 3 million won and ordered the completion of a 40-hour child abuse treatment program.
Teacher A, who worked at a daycare center in Ulsan, was indicted for abusing a 4-year-old child in her care in May 2023 by continuing to spoon-feed food even as the child dry-heaved.
A also scolded the children for over 10 minutes in an agitated manner, raising her voice after some of the children dropped snack crumbs.
She roughly pulled a child who was sitting properly and took away snacks from another.
The court stated the reasoning for the sentencing, noting, "She emotionally abused children who are still clumsy at expressing their thoughts, and she has not been forgiven by the victimized child and parents."
