The Korea Football Association has concluded the document screening for candidates for the interim head coach position of the national football team and will conduct the interview process this week. It has been confirmed that all candidates participating in the interviews are foreign nationals, and former Jeonbuk manager Gus Poyet has been eliminated.

The Korea Football Association announced today (the 17th) that it "concluded the document screening for the open recruitment of the interim head coach and coaching staff last weekend and notified applicants of their acceptance status."
The association plans to conduct video interviews over two days on the 20th and 21st for those who passed the document screening. According to our reporting, about 5 candidates passed the document screening, all of whom are foreigners, and former Jeonbuk manager Gus Poyet, who had drawn significant interest, was confirmed to have been eliminated.
Poyet took charge of Jeonbuk last year and led the team to a double crown by winning the K League and the cup competition. He had drawn attention as a suitable candidate to quickly stabilize the unsettled atmosphere due to his high understanding of South Korean players. However, it is known that the scores for his coaching staff, including Lee Dong-gook, were relatively low.
A football official explained, "As announced in advance, since the coaching staff for this national team is being recruited in the form of a package unit, the collaboration plan between the manager and the coaching staff, as well as the coaching staff's specific execution plans and experience, were important evaluation factors," adding, "All applicants were evaluated by the same standards."
The Korea Football Association, which formed an evaluation committee in accordance with the recommendations of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, stated that for the interviews, National Team Strengthening Committee members and external evaluation members will participate in equal proportions of 5 to 5 for the evaluation.
