Ukraine has carried out its largest-ever attack targeting the Moscow region, while Russia has launched ballistic missiles at various regions across Ukraine.
According to foreign media outlets including AFP on the 16th (local time), more than 12 people have been killed in attacks by both sides since the previous night.
Andrey Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, stated via Telegram that day that Ukraine launched its largest-ever attack targeting the Moscow region overnight, resulting in at least one death.
Governor Vorobyov stated, "An 83-year-old man was killed and multiple people were injured after the Podolsk area, where a logistics warehouse of Wildberries, Russia's largest online shopping mall, is located, was struck."
He added that damages also occurred at several other facilities, including a logistics warehouse in the Domodedovo area adjacent to one of Moscow's major airports.
In fact, footage captured massive pillars of smoke rising from the hit Koledino logistics warehouse of Wildberries, located about 45 kilometers south of Moscow.
Ukraine has targeted Wildberries in recent weeks, accusing the company of distributing military supplies.
This is interpreted as part of a broader military operation aimed at destroying key economic infrastructure supporting Russia's military operations.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it intercepted and downed 822 Ukrainian drones across the country that day.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that about 600 of these were aimed at the Russian capital, Moscow.
Yuri Slyusar, governor of the southern Rostov region, stated that 5 people were killed in a residential area, and 1 person also died in the Belgorod region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on X that day that 6 people were injured in Kyiv and surrounding areas due to overnight Russian attacks, and emergency recovery efforts are underway.
He also reported that Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih were hit by ballistic missile attacks, with 2 people killed and 14 injured in Kryvyi Rih.
Kryvyi Rih is President Zelenskyy's hometown, and reports indicate that the ArcelorMittal steel plant located there was attacked.
President Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the bereaved families, stating that 1 person also died in Sumy.
AFP reported that 2 people were also killed in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.
President Zelenskyy wrote, "Thirteen regions have been attacked just this week," adding, "The enemy has fired more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided bombs, and 62 missiles at our cities."
Although he did not directly mention the ballistic missiles used in this particular attack, he appealed for air defense support that day, stating, "North Korean ballistic missiles are destroying infrastructure and taking lives right here in Europe," and "Europe's interception equipment cannot simply be left sitting in warehouses."
President Zelenskyy previously claimed on the 30th of last month and the 11th of this month that Russia attacked Ukraine using North Korean ballistic missiles.
