A series of traffic accidents occurred today (August 16), a holiday. In Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, a tour bus crashed into a retaining wall and overturned, injuring 17 passengers. In Gwangju, a van crashed into a snack bar.

At around 9:00 AM today, a tour bus traveling along the road near Neulbjae Tunnel in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon Province, suddenly crashed into a retaining wall and overturned.
The accident left one of the 18 passengers with a serious injury, including a broken arm, and 16 others with minor injuries. They were transported to the hospital.
Police and fire authorities believe the bus crashed into the wall and tipped over while swerving to avoid another vehicle that cut in front of it.

Around 1:00 PM, an express bus and a passenger car collided near the Oksan Junction on the Gyeongbu Expressway heading toward Cheongju.
The accident sent two people, including the driver of the car in their 50s, to the hospital with injuries. Some lanes were restricted due to the aftermath, causing severe traffic congestion during the holiday afternoon.
Police believe the collision occurred when the passenger car attempted to change lanes and hit the express bus traveling in the bus-only lane.

At around 12:40 PM, a van driven by a driver in their 70s crashed into a snack bar at Sansu Market in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
The accident resulted in minor injuries for six people, including the driver and a store merchant, who were subsequently taken to the hospital.
Police suspect the accident happened when the driver in their 70s mistook the accelerator for the brake while moving a parked vehicle.
