The professional baseball team Lotte Giants has announced plans to improve the procedures for ambulances entering the field during emergency situations.
The Lotte front office promised today (August 15), "We will shorten the time it takes to open the outfield fence and allow ambulances to enter by conducting training and practice sessions so that ambulances can enter in advance right after medical staff are deployed, immediately following the opening of the fence."
During the game between the Lotte Giants and NC Dinos held at Sajik Stadium in Busan the previous day, NC pitcher Lim Ji-min was directly struck in the face by a batted ball from Lotte's Victor Reyes.
At that time, broadcast cameras captured what appeared to be a delay in immediately opening the outfield access gate at Sajik Stadium.
Lim got up on his own shortly afterward, boarded the ambulance, and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Examination results showed that Lim sustained a comminuted fracture of the lower jaw in the facial area along with a laceration inside his mouth, and he is scheduled to undergo surgery early next week.
The Lotte club stated, "Above all, we sincerely wish for the swift recovery and good health of player Lim Ji-min."
