Ahn Song-yi, 36, has set a historic record by becoming the first player to pass the cut 300 times on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour.
On August 14, Ahn finished the second round of the Mediheal-Hankook Ilbo Championship at the Myeongseongsan Course (par 72) of Montvert Country Club in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, by shooting two under par. With a total of 3 under par 141, she successfully advanced past the cut in a tie for 19th place.
With this achievement, Ahn became the first player in KLPGA Tour history to reach the milestone of 300 cut passes.
Having debuted on the regular tour in 2010, Ahn claimed her emotional first victory in November 2019 at her 237th tournament appearance, the ADT Caps Championship, and secured her second title at the Phantom Classic in September 2020.
In June of this year, she became the first player in KLPGA Tour history to reach 400 tournament appearances at the Mercedes-Benz Korea Women's Open, and she has now established another milestone in the cut-passed category.
"I am deeply honored to achieve such a monumental record," Ahn said. "Rather than obsessing over records, I focused on every single match, which seems to have led to this good result."
Naming her first victory as the most memorable moment of her tour career, she added, "It was a time when I had deep concerns and dilemmas about golf, and that win became the crucial driving force that has allowed me to continue my career as a player until now."
Sharing the secret to her long career as paying close attention to physical training and nutritional supplements, she also expressed her next ambition: "I want to challenge the record for the oldest winner on the KLPGA Tour."
