The prosecution has demanded a prison sentence for the son of a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owner in Jeju who was put on trial for illegally filming female employees using ultra-small cameras.
Jeju District Court Judge Shin Jae-hwan, presiding over Criminal Division 3, held the final hearing today for the man in his 40s, identified as A, who was indicted without detention on charges including violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
The prosecution requested the court to sentence A to three years in prison.
The prosecution stated the reason for the sentencing demand, noting that the nature of the illegal filming offenses is severe and that the acts were carried out over a long period.
A is accused of secretly filming female colleagues while working as an executive at an SME in Jeju headed by his father.
He installed an ultra-small camera under the desk of a victimized employee, B, and filmed her from May to mid-July 2024.
Investigations showed that around July of that same year, he also installed an ultra-small camera inside a stall of the women's restroom at the office to film another employee.
The crimes came to light when a victimized employee discovered an ultra-small camera in the women's restroom.
The victim reportedly reported the incident to A, her workplace supervisor, but A did not reveal that he was the perpetrator.
He later turned himself in after police investigations began following a report filed by the company management.
The police seized A's mobile phone and other devices for forensic examination, securing a large number of photos and videos.
A admitted to all the charges during the court trial.
A's defense attorney apologized to the victims while asking the court to take into consideration that it was his first offense with no prior criminal record.
A himself stated, I am sorry for shattering the trust as a workplace supervisor. It seems no words can properly convey my apology. I will live the rest of my life in reflection.
The sentencing hearing for A is scheduled for September 16.
