Lawmakers from the People Power Party accused of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant issued by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials against former President Yoon Suk Yeol have been indicted and sent to trial.
The 2nd Comprehensive Special Counsel Team, led by Kwon Chang-young, announced today (August 14) that it has indicted People Power Party lawmakers Na Kyung-won, Kim Gi-hyeon, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Kwon Young-jin without detention on charges of special obstruction of official duties.
They are accused of forming a human chain with supporters of former President Yoon in front of the presidential residence on January 15 of last year, thereby obstructing the execution of the arrest warrant against him by the Corruption Investigation Office and the police.
The special counsel team explained that it confirmed the charges by synthesizing statements from various officials who participated in executing the arrest warrant, including prosecutors from the Corruption Investigation Office, and transcripts containing abusive language captured in approximately 94GB of evidentiary video footage recorded at the time of the arrest warrant execution.
The special counsel team stated, "We indicted them after confirming that the defendants did not merely express opposition to the arrest, but rather formed a human chain with a large number of people at the scene to block entry into the residence, thereby realistically obstructing the execution of the warrant."
