Amid ongoing controversies surrounding the pro-Japanese history of actor Ha-young's great-grandfather, Ahn Sang-ho, a past newspaper report showing he was sued over land ownership transfer issues during the Japanese colonial period is drawing renewed attention.
Recently, a newspaper article dated December 28, 1923, titled "Ahn Sang-ho Sued for Cancellation of Ownership Transfer," has been spreading rapidly across online communities and social media.
The report details the circumstances under which a person named Park Seung-hak filed a lawsuit against Ahn Sang-ho at the Gyeongseong District Court regarding a plot of land in Paju-gun.
The Dong-A Ilbo reported, "Park Seung-hak, a resident of Icheon-ri, Papyeong-myeon, Paju-gun, has filed a lawsuit against Ahn Sang-ho, who lived at Samjeongmok, Jongno in the city, with the Civil Division of the Gyeongseong District Court requesting the cancellation of a land purchase certificate."
The land in question is located in Raemun-ri, Cheonhyeon-myeon, Paju-gun, and it is reported that the property originally belonged to Park, who filed the lawsuit.
The newspaper stated, "The land in Raemun-ri, Cheonhyeon-myeon, Paju-gun, valued at around 1,200 won, was originally owned by the plaintiff. However, while the plaintiff was away, the defendant threatened the plaintiff's mother—who knew nothing of the ways of the world—with harsh words, made it appear as though he had purchased the land himself, and obtained a certificate from the local county office."
According to the complaint submitted by Park Seung-hak to the court, it was claimed that around November 1914 (the 3rd year of Taisho), while Park was away from home, Ahn Sang-ho had the land ownership transferred from Park's mother.
The complaint also stated that "Ahn Sang-ho threatened Park's mother, who was ignorant of the ways of the world, with intimidating words and fabricated as if he had legitimately purchased the land, thereby obtaining a certificate related to the land sale from the jurisdictional county office."
According to newspaper reports from that time, Park had initially demanded multiple times that Ahn Sang-ho cancel the certificate, but his requests were refused, ultimately leading him to file a lawsuit with the Civil Division of the Gyeongseong District Court demanding the cancellation of the land sale certificate.
While the newspaper reported the fact that a lawsuit had been filed and a trial was scheduled, the final verdict could not be confirmed.
Around the same time, The Chosun Ilbo also reported the news, adding, "What contents actually lie beneath the surface cannot be known until the trial is opened and oral arguments are heard from both sides."
It has been revealed that Ahn Sang-ho was active in the pro-Japanese organization "Daejeong Chinmokhoe" and was one of the medical personnel who treated Yi Wan-yong, who was severely injured in the righteous assassination attempt by independence activist Yi Jae-myeong.
Records also show that he was active in the Hirobumi Ito Commemoration Preparation Committee during the Japanese colonial period.
