Democratic Party leadership candidate Song Young-gil said today (August 14) regarding his use of the expression "crucian carp IQ" toward candidate Jung Chung-rae, "I express regret that the expression was rough."
In a post uploaded to Facebook today, Song stated, "It was not something that should have been said to a comrade in the same party."
The remark for which Song apologized came during an interview with CBS Radio the previous day.
During the interview, pointing out that candidate Jung had spoken during the TV debate two days prior with the implication that the evaluation of the June 3 local elections was coordinated by the party and the presidential office rather than the party, government, and presidential office, Song noted, "Last time, he said it was the party, government, and presidential office [coordination], but this time he lied that it was done by the party and the presidential office."
He then criticized, "Why tell such obvious lies, as if you have the IQ of a crucian carp?"
Regarding this, Song said, "My emotions flared up seeing the lying in front of clear facts, and an excessive expression came out in that process."
He added, "I also convey my sense of regret to the party members and comrades who must have been uncomfortable."
