Fifteen election commission officials have been disciplined in connection with the ballot paper shortage and other issues that occurred during the June 3 local elections.
In a press release today (the 13th), the National Election Commission announced that among the 15 individuals, eight received heavy disciplinary actions, including one dismissal, one demotion, and six suspensions.
Seven individuals received light disciplinary actions, including salary reductions (three) and reprimands (four).
Regarding the reasons for the disciplinary actions, the election commission stated, "They handled their duties improperly by making poor policy judgments and neglecting to prepare response measures during the ballot shortage incident, improperly calculating the number of print copies, and responding inadequately to the situation."
However, the commission did not disclose the personal details of those disciplined or the specific reasons for their respective penalties.
Previously, the election commission conducted a special audit through its audit office following the ballot shortage incident.
Based on the audit results, the commission finalized the disciplinary actions through a meeting of the High Disciplinary Committee.
The High Disciplinary Committee is chaired by one member of the National Election Commission and consists of six external private members.
