The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced today (August 13) that they conducted a joint special inspection with local governments of 201 private car inspection centers, catching 23 of them engaging in illegal activities.
The inspection took place over a three-week period from June 8 to June 26.
The inspected facilities account for about 10% of all private inspection centers (1,994 designated maintenance providers) nationwide.
Among the violations found, poor recording of inspection footage was the most common with 6 cases, followed by 5 cases of omitting parts of inspections, 3 cases of failing to meet facility and equipment standards, and 9 cases categorized as "others," which included issuing inspection sheets inconsistent with actual results or failing to maintain equipment precision.
Authorities also caught a facility that arbitrarily modified its exhaust gas measuring equipment away from its approved format.
Following the inspection results, 10 inspection centers are scheduled to face business suspensions, while 7 technical personnel will face job suspensions.
Administrative measures, including the imposition of penalty surcharges, will also be issued in 13 cases.
