Two male cousins in their 30s have been arrested for cultivating marijuana in two urban villas, processing it into dried marijuana, marijuana jelly, and liquid cannabis, and distributing it via Telegram.
The Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced today (August 13) that it has arrested and is investigating two men in their 30s, including A, on charges including violations of the Narcotics Control Act.
The cousins are accused of renting two villas in the Yongin, Gyeonggi Province area to grow marijuana, processing the harvest into marijuana, jelly, and liquid forms, and selling them through Telegram.
They purchased marijuana seeds from overseas websites via international mail and processed them into illicit drugs.
Investigations revealed that they sold the products through Telegram, accepting cash or cryptocurrency worth between 500,000 won and 1 million won.
The LED lights and hygrometers used for growing the marijuana were bought on the open market, and they learned cultivation techniques through online searches.
To evade tracking by investigative authorities, they used other people's addresses for delivery and secretly collected the packages upon receiving delivery notifications.
However, following reports from suspicious residents, police conducted surveillance and analyzed CCTV footage before apprehending both suspects on the 6th.
Police seized 35 marijuana plants under cultivation, 2.3 kg of dried marijuana, 2.15 million won in cash, and cryptocurrency worth 17 million won found at the scene.
The arrested suspects, including A, tested positive for marijuana in drug tests.
Police estimate that they began their crimes last month, but considering the time required to grow marijuana, they are conducting further investigations with the possibility that they committed crimes earlier as well.
